DEFEND THE GUARD

The Libertarian Party of St. Charles County is in full support  Defend the Guard.

If passed would require US congress to declare war before deploying  members of Missouri's National Guard overseas.

HOW TO HELP DEFEND THE GUARD IN MISSOURI:

CALL AND EMAIL YOUR REPRESENTATIVE

Click HERE to find your representatives via the Missouri Senate Website

Below is a list of scripts for contacting legislators.

Speaking to the REPRESENTATIVE/SENATOR:

Intro: “Hello Representative/Senator [Last Name], this is [Your Full Name] from [Your City/Town] in [Your District/County]. Thank you for taking my call.I’m calling today to respectfully ask you to support and co-sponsor the Defend the Guard here in Missouri.”

Main Message: “The bill would prevent Missouri National Guard members from being sent into overseas combat unless Congress has declared war or the United States is directly attacked, as the Constitution requires. It protects our Guard members and reinforces their primary mission to serve Missouri. Could you please consider supporting or co-sponsoring this legislation?”

Closing: “Thank you again for your time and for representing our district. I look forward to your strong support on this important issue.”

KEY TALKING POINTS:

  • Who the Guard Serves: Missouri National Guard members volunteer to defend Missouri and the United States — they should not be sent into endless foreign wars without proper authorization.

  • Constitutional Issue: The U.S. Constitution clearly requires Congress to formally declare war before sending troops into combat. Defend the Guard enforces this by prohibiting Missouri Guard units from overseas combat deployments unless Congress declares war or our homeland is directly attacked.

  • Protects Our Troops: This bill keeps Missouri Guard members from being used in undeclared, open-ended conflicts that have nothing to do with defending America.

  • State Sovereignty: The National Guard’s primary mission is to serve Missouri under the Governor for disasters, emergencies, and state needs. Defend the Guard restores that proper balance.

  • Bipartisan & Common Sense: This is not anti-military — it is pro-Constitution and pro-troop. Several other states have already passed or are advancing similar legislation.

Email Header: Support for Defend The Guard Act

Email Body: Dear Representative/Senator [Last Name],

I am writing to ask for your support of the Defend the Guard Act.

Missouri National Guard members volunteer to serve and protect our state and nation, but they have too often been deployed into prolonged overseas conflicts without a formal declaration of war by Congress. This bill would ensure Missouri Guard units are only sent into active combat overseas when Congress has declared war or when there is a direct attack on our homeland, as required by the Constitution.

The Defend the Guard Act protects our service members, restores constitutional limits on the use of military force, and preserves the Guard’s primary mission of serving Missouri when needed.

I respectfully ask that you support and co-sponsor this legislation and help move it forward this session. I would appreciate knowing your position on the Defend the Guard Act.

Thank you for your time and service.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]

[City], Missouri
